UFC's Jon Jones Wanted in Hit-and-Run Accident
Albuquerque police want a word with Jon Jones.
The UFC light heavyweight champion is a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run accident involving a pregnant woman on Sunday morning, ESPN is reporting.
"The case has progressed and he is now our suspect in the the hit and run that happened earlier this morning involving a pregnant female," Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Simon Drobik told ESPN. "We are now definitely looking at him as a suspect."
The woman, in her 20s, is in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to police. Jones is facing a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge and could be on the hook for the woman's medical costs and vehicle damage.
An off-duty police officer told TMZ Sports that a man he believes to be Jones was seeing fleeing from the scene, leaving his car and running on foot. A separate TMZ Sports report says that marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in Jones's car.
Meanwhile, Jones is scheduled to fight Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas.
"We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident," the UFC said in a statement to ESPN. "We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available."
This comes three months after Jones checked himself into rehab to battle substance-abuse issues.
