Report: Chris Brown Nearing Civil Settlement in D.C. Assault
Chris Brown could be getting out of jail sooner than expected. Brown was order back into custody until late April, one week after the start of his trial in a D.C. assault case. However, his lawyer is working on a civil settlement to get the singer released, reports TMZ.
Attorney Mark Geragos is in talks with prosecutors to reach a payout for the man who accused Brown of breaking his nose last October. If a financial agreement can be reached, the victim, Parker Isaac Adams, may drop criminal charges against Brown. Adams filed a $3 million lawsuit against the "Loyal" singer last month.
The amount of the settlement is several hundred thousand dollars, according to TMZ. A deal between the two could be done within the next couple of days.
Brown and his bodyguard were arrested for the Adams attack during a stop in D.C. for Howard University's annual Homecoming festivities. Adams claims the Grammy-winner pummeled him for trying to jump in a photo. Brown's original charge was brought down from a felony to a misdemeanor.
Prosecutors in the probation violation case, which currently has him behind bars, are aware of the D.C. settlement talks.
Breezy is on probation for assaulting Rihanna in 2009. He was arrested last week after he got kicked out of rehab in a Malibu, Calif. for violating various facility rules.
This past Monday (March 17), Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin ordered Brown back to a downtown Los Angeles jail until an April 23 probation hearing on the matter. He could be facing up to four years of prison if found guilty.
