A Quincy Jones Vs. Kanye West Argument Broke Out After This DJ Compared The Two
DJ D-Nice set the bar (a high one at that) with his #ClubQuarantine Instagram extravaganza. In place of cancelled entertainment events, Instagram Live battles between some of music’s most prolific musicians have since engrossed the Internet. The likes of Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, The-Dream, Sean Garrett, Ne-Yo, and Johnta Austin have been the latest to toss their hats into the ring. With their battles heating up the e-streets, music lovers have been throwing out other iconic music names of hip-hop and R&B’s upper echelon they would like to see in a match, such as Diddy, Pharrell, Jermaine Dupri, Missy Elliott, Teddy Riley, and Babyface to name a few.
However, one DJ lived up to his turntablist moniker and found himself the antagonist of the music community’s ire after he tried to downplay Quincy Jones’ historical legacy. On Sunday night (March 29), a DJ by the name of DJ Green Villian took to Twitter to offer his take that Kanye West’s production output is better than Quincy’s.
“Look, y’all wanna RT some sh** put this out there, I’ll go song for song. Kanye vs Quincy Jones production. I’m puttin’ money up on it,” he issued. “If you not gonna go song for song for money, stop mentioning me.”
His sentiments had the whole timeline inflamed as people swiftly chimed in across the social platform. Even Public Enemy’s Chuck D weighed in on the discussion. “People that don’t know Quincy Jones work obviously and clearly use their phones for a toy rather than a tool,” Chuck chimed in.
“A Dj saying Quincy Jones isn’t that big of a deal is the main reason why I dont f**k with half these djs now,” a second person tweeted. “Just hipsters with NO music knowledge. Quincy gave us Thriller...Shutcho young dumb*** up. Nobody will ever will repeat that.”
“If you’re a DJ that does not understand or appreciate the impact of Quincy Jones to music, please, stop DJing,” a third issued.
“‘what else did quincy jones do other than michael jackson albums’...sweetie, we will be here all night WTF do you mean,” a fourth tweeted.
DJ Green Villian later popped back on Twitter to double down on his preference for Kanye’s discography. “Y’all talking about Quincy the GOAT producer, but don’t even bump his shit like that and i know y’all don’t,” he wrote. “Let this be the same situation with a rapper, it’ll be a completely different story.”
