Drake Signs Former Bodyguard Who Spent Time in Jail
Just ask his longtime friend, security guard and, now, newest signee, Baka.
After recently announcing more 2017 plans for OVO, such as the eighth annual OVO Fest, Drizzy has now surprised everyone with news of Baka’s signing. As if he weren’t already family before, Mr. Not Nice has now stamped his brotherhood with Champagne Papi in ink. Drake commemorated his newest roster addition during an event with another longtime friend and industry mate, French Montana, who also captured the excitement.
“When [Baka got out of jail], there’s a lot of different paths that he could have took,” Drizzy said before presenting him with his OVO deal. “And he decided to focus on music. And when he focused on music, maybe people thought, ‘Oh, OK, it’s a little phase.’ It’s an honor and a pleasure. I just want to give this pen to my brother. I love you, G. Trust me. You’ve been holding it down for a long time.”
Baka, who had been previously convicted on assault charges, has received several lyrical cosigns from the More Life emcee. Songs like “From Time” include vocals from the Canadian artist and Drizzy also shouts him out on “Know Yourself,” just to ring a few bells.
