True? Derrick Rose Says the NBA Teaches Players to Take Home Their Condoms After Sex

Here's why this came up during his rape trial.

Derrick Rose's rape trial continues to take twists and turns with each day.

A day after U.S. District Court Judge Michael Fitzgerald warned that the case could result in a mistrial due to the plaintiff's lawyer being "unbelievably careless," Rose dropped somewhat of a bombshell himself.

On Tuesday in court, the New York Knicks point guard told jurors that he pocketed his used condom after he and his two friends took turns having sex with their accuser in an August 2013 incident, which the woman involved alleges was a rape and the three men maintain was consensual sex.

“In my profession they teach us to make sure you get the condom if you can’t flush it… It’s kind of normal with my profession,” Rose said, as reported by The Daily Beast

Rose said that after he had sex with the woman he put the used condom back into its wrapper and took it with him. He said it was something taught to him during the NBA's "Rookie Transition Program" in Orlando back in 2008.

Rose added, “You have to be very careful what you do with your condoms. This girl wasn’t someone I was going to introduce to my family or my mom. No way I was going to leave a condom anywhere around her apartment. I was trained to do it.”

When the woman's lawyer, Waukeen McCoy, asked Rose why he didn't flush the condom down the toilet as his friends, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen, did, the NBA star said he "normally would," but decided to take it with him.

“At the time I had it in my mind to take it [with me],” Rose said. “If I had known where her bathroom was I would have flushed it.”

That's when McCoy flat out accused Rose of trying to destroy the evidence of the alleged rape.

“You didn’t want anybody to know you were there,” McCoy said.

Rose shot back, “It was probably in my pocket because I didn’t want to be disrespectful.”

This is part of the woman's $21.3 million civil rape lawsuit trial against Rose and his two friends.
