D'Angelo Announces Black Messiah Album
D’Angelo has finally ended that 14-year break in between albums. His new release, Black Messiah, was announced via video trailer Friday (Dec. 12), along with a "listening party" going down in New York City this Sunday.
The listening event is sponsored by the Red Bull Music Academy and will be hosted by writer Nelson George, Pitchfork reports.
Black Messiah is collaboration between the Virginia recording artist and his band, The Vanguard. It’s slated for official release next Tuesday (Dec. 16). There’s even a picture of the album making its way around the ‘Net (that pretty much seals the deal).
D’Angelo has been building up to this release for the last several months now. In June, his manager, Kevin Liles, revealed that the album was being mixed and mastered. Then in November, D'Angelo announced a 13-city European jaunt, kicking off next February.
Now, the only pieces of the puzzle missing are the dates for a national tour. Let’s hope that news breaks next.
