Robert Jones, a New Orleans man, walked free Friday after serving 23 years in prison for a wrongful murder conviction. Detectives found that he had no connection to rape, manslaughter and robbery accusations in the death of UK tourist Julie Stott in 1992. Jones was sentenced after another man was convicted for the crimes. 
On Friday, Jones was released from the Angola Louisiana State Penitentiary after the Louisiana Circuit Court of Appeals vacated his life sentence conviction, the The Times-Picayne reports. They found that prosecutors withheld evidence that would have worked in Jones's favor during the trial.

His lawyers also say that he was innocent in the case of an additional manslaughter conviction. Jones had pleaded guilty to the crime to avoid another life sentence. He was originally misidentified as a suspect in the case. 
A trial date is pending for Jones's case.
