Tributes Pour In For Pop Smoke On What Would've Been His 21st Birthday
Tributes are pouring in from all over across social media in commemoration of Pop Smoke on what would’ve been his 21st birthday (July 20). The remembrances come amid the release of the deluxe edition of his posthumus debut album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, this weekend.
The original version of the posthumus album was released earlier this month and marks the late rapper’s first project to ever go number one. This placed Pop Smoke alongside Juice WRLD, Tupac, Biggie, and XXXtentacion as the only rappers to have an album top the charts posthumously. The deluxe edition released this past weekend came with an additional 15 tracks featuring Fivio Foreign, Young Thug, Guuna, Jamie Foxx, and Burna Boy amongst others.
Along with the deluxe release of Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, a music video for “The Woo” featuring 50 Cent and Roddy Ricch also dropped on Pop Smoke’s birthday.
“Happy birthday superstar,” his manager, Steven Victor, penned on Instagram. “Today we celebrate you. Today we turn our pain into champagne forever & always.”
Fivio Foreign also took to the social platform to commemorate his fallen brother-in-rhyme.
“HAPPY Cday [Woo],” he wrote for his late friend. “Wat we did 2 dis industry is juss different Dey gon kno who we are forever & Yu was da biggest part ov dat Luv Yu forever gangsta.”
The hip-hop community has continued to come to terms with the untimely passing of Pop Smoke. The news of his death sent reverberating shockwaves across the industry. The 20-year old was tragically shot and killed in the early morning hours of Feb. 19 in what appeared to be a home invasion after a group of masked men invaded the residence and robbed him. The Los Angeles Police Department revealed that five people have been arrested in connection to the shooting, three adults and two juveniles.
Two of the adult suspects —19-year-old Corey Walker and 18-year-old Keandre Rogers —were charged with murder with a special circumstance allegation, according to Variety. The two juvenile suspect names have not been released because of their age but they were also charged with one count each of murder and robbery. They will be tried in juvenile court.
