Philadelphia Eagles Stomp All Over Dallas Cowboys

Michael Vick throws for two touchdowns and LeSean McCoy gains career-best 185 yards rushing.

How ‘bout them Eagles?

That has to be the question after the resounding victory the maligned Philadelphia Eagles pulled off Sunday, defeating NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys 34-7 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Led by quarterback Michael Vick and a career rushing night by running back LeSean McCoy, the Eagles stormed out to their most impressive win this season as they recorded back-to-back victories for the first time. The surging Eagles are now 3-4 and in a three-way tie for second place in the division with Dallas and Washington.

Maybe more important, they are beginning to resemble the “Dream Team” moniker many thought they deserved when the franchise added six former Pro Bowlers this offseason to a team that was just a step away from the Super Bowl last season. But instead of making any bold statements, the Eagles took Sunday night’s victory very much in stride.

“It’s important you have the right attitude to correct mistakes,” said head coach Andy Reid, whose team started the season a disappointing 1-4. “We’ll continue to do that. We’ve got plenty of room to improve.”

They looked well on their way to marked improvement Sunday night. Vick completed 21 of 28 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Eagles to points on each of their first six possessions.

The night, however, belonged to McCoy, who rushed for a career best 185 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles racked up 495 yards of total offense and held the football for 42:09 against one of the NFL’s top defenses.

It was a performance that had Dallas’s long-haired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan eating his “all-hype” team words from this summer as the Eagles simply overwhelmed his unit all night.
