Jahlil Okafor Will Be Rolling With a Security Guard Now

So don’t even think about coming for the Sixers' rookie.

The Philadelphia 76ers are doing whatever it takes to protect their investment.

NBA sources are telling ESPN that the team has hired a security guard to follow rookie Jahlil Okafor wherever he goes after the 19-year-old, third overall pick in the 2015 draft got into some off-the-court trouble last month.

It might be viewed as a form of babysitting, but a source close to Okafor told ESPN security detail for players is common in today's NBA.

"A lot of teams do that for their players anyway," the source said. "So from now on, the Sixers are going to have someone at his disposal full-time."

This comes after Okafor was seen on video having a street fight outside a Boston nightclub early Thursday morning.

The Philadelphia Inquirer also learned that three weeks prior to that event, Okafor was stopped by police for reckless driving, reaching speeds of up to 108 miles per hour on Philadelphia's Ben Franklin Bridge.

On Monday, CSN Philly also learned that Okafor tried to use a fake ID to get into Misconduct Tavern in Philadelphia in October, but was denied service.

It's incidents like these that the 76ers want to keep Okafor clear from and the center knows it, too, issuing an apology via a series of tweets Sunday.

He's worth the extra attention, considering he's leading all rookies in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game, and has been a lone bright spot for the dreadful 0-18 Sixers this season.

Okafor and the Sixers will host Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night in the Black Mamba's last game in front of his hometown crowd.
