Andre 3000 No Longer Playing Jimi Hendrix
Andre 3000's big screen dreams just went up in smoke. The visionary hip-hop artist was slated to play legendary rocker Jimi Hendrix in an independent biopic, but Hendrix's estate killed the project by restricting access to his music. The BoomBox reports that Janie Hendrix, the CEO of Experience Hendrix and the guitarist's sister, is the one who doesn't want to film to be made. She says she has “made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without [our] full participation.”
A Hendrix biopic without music is like a balloon without air, so it seems producers have shelved the project for now. But a documentary about the iconic axeman is still in the works. The estate says that “with Sony Legacy, our partner, we are active in releasing documentary material starring, so to speak, Jimi Hendrix as himself and plan to continue on this path.”
Now that Dre can quit his acting classes, maybe he can get back to work on a follow-up to "The Love Below"?
