Here's How Denzel Shut Down Jimmy Kimmel and Warren Beatty at the Oscars
The unfortunate mixup at the end of Sunday night's Academy Awards still continues to be a hot topic, but this time, Denzel Washington's name is being added to the mix.
According to the night's host, Jimmy Kimmel, the Oscar-winning actor actually helped save the day after the unforgettable La La Land/Moonlight mixup for Best Picture.
Kimmel explained that Washington politely told him and the award's presenter Warren Beatty to "shut their mouths" so that the problem could be corrected.
Kimmel explained during his first night back at his late night talk show following the debacle that the Fences actor came to the rescue in the 11th hour after a shaken and perplexed Faye Dunaway announced La La Land as the winner for Best Picture.
The host said that he and Beatty were both standing directly in front of Washington and noticed him yelling from his front-row seat in the audience, "Barry!"
He said that is when they had noticed that the cast of Moonlight and director Barry Jenkins were gathering behind them waiting for their chance to speak and accept their award.
"Thank God Denzel was there to make sense," he said. "So, I listened to Denzel, as you should, and I went and I got Barry, and he spoke."
