Macklemore to Release New Album This Year
We’re only two days in, and 2015 is already shaping up to be a big year for music with heavily anticipated releases from Kanye West, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and now Macklemore.
The Seattle rapper and music partner Ryan Lewis will be dropping a new album sometime this year, the 31-year-old announced on Twitter yesterday. After a fan tweeted, “Its 2015 and I still don't have a new @macklemore album wtf?” Mackelmore replied, “you will this year. Believe that.”
According to a Billboard source, the music is likely to drop around the second half of this year. A release date and single are still being kept secret.
Macklemore and Lewis’s last LP, The Heist, sold over a million copies, and helped the duo snag four Grammys at last year’s ceremony, including Best Rap Album. He talked about the new album during a thought-provoking interview with Hot 97 about race and white privilege. “I’m excited about what I’m talking about on this record," said Macklemore. "When you get to this point — when you get to any point — I’ve always talked about what we’re talking about today, I’ve always in music, people might not be familiar with that but I have, and it’s always been at the forefront of what I care about. So I’m excited to get back to some creative ways in talking about it, and we're not done. It’s gonna be 2015, it’s probably gonna be a minute in 2015, but I’m excited to see the conversation that comes from this.”
