Eric Holder to Appear Before Senate to Discuss Gun-Running Program

Attorney General Eric Holder will be called on to discuss Operation Fast and Furious.

Attorney General Eric Holder has received a second request to testify on Capitol Hill about the controversial “Fast and Furious” gun program operated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The Senate Judiciary Committee has asked him to appear before the panel on Nov. 8. He also has been called to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Dec. 8.

As it has been reported, the Senate hearing will not be as hostile as the House panel is likely to be next month, because it will be controlled by Democrats. But that’s not to say it will be easy. A spokesperson for Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the panel’s ranking Republican, told the publication that the lawmaker plans to “press” Holder next week.

Congressional Republicans have accused Holder of being dishonest about his familiarity with the operation that sold weapons in an effort to track Mexican arms and drug cartels. Two of the guns are alleged to have been used in the fatal shooting of a Border Patrol agent. They also have accused him of stonewalling investigations into the operation. According to another report, 17 lawmakers are calling for Holder’s resignation.
