Video of Man Pulled Over for Pregnancy Reveal Sparks Debate on Using Police for Pranks

Army vet Jarred Wright has a history with PTSD and anxiety.

A touching video of a man getting surprised by police and his wife as part of a pregnancy announcement has gone viral and started an interesting debate.

Jarred Wright of Hurst, Texas, is a U.S. Army veteran who has experienced PTSD and anxiety from his time in the service. In one instance, Wright dealt with a panic attack so severe, he called a crisis hotline and four officers were sent to check on him. Wright established a unique bond with one of the officers, Todd Colichia.

"He and I, we were just able to connect," Colichia told BuzzFeed News. "I guess because he and I both share service. We just by chance happened to meet up on the call and we were able to connect, and he was able to come back to us."

  • During a recent stay in the hospital, Wright’s wife, Nikki Wright, learned that she was pregnant. She then decided to use Officer Colichia to help surprise her husband with the news.

In the video, Jarred and Nikki Wright are pulled over by Colichia during a trip to lunch. Wright is visibly relieved to see his friend.

After some small talk, Colichia explains why he pulled them over.

"The reason why I stopped you is because you've got a child in the car with no child seat," Colichia said. Wright was confused and said they don’t have a child in the car.

     “Are you sure?” asked Colichia.

“We do have a child in the car with no car seat,” Nikki Wright said as she held up a positive pregnancy test.

  • Most people agreed the announcement was very cute and emotional

  • However, some did find it unusual for a police officer to be used to surprise a Black man with a history of PTSD

  • While others defended Nikki's method and said PTSD cannot be generalized
