El Chapo’s Wife Speaks Out About Her Drug Trafficking Husband In New Interview
The wife of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman spoke out in a rare television appearance and said the media is responsible for making her husband look like a criminal.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, told Telemundo her husband in really a “simple” and “humble” man. Emma, who married the drug cartel kingpin on her 18th birthday, also went so far as to claim she’s never seen El Chapo do anything illegal.
“[The media] made him too famous,” Aispuro, 29, said in Spanish. “It’s not fair.”
“They don’t want to bring him down from the pedestal to make him more like he is, a normal, ordinary person,” she added.
Right now, El Chapo’s is going to trial in a Brooklyn federal court for his drug trafficking charges. According to Aispuro, El Chapo hopes the “media pressure is present and everything can be clearer and everyone can see what really happens.”
“That’s what he really wants,” she said. “For everyone to realize how things really are and see it all from another perspective. More than anything, I think that’s what he wants. Just tell it like it is.”
Emma has been present at every day of the trial, which began in November. She believes her presence is what any wife should do in her situation.
“I think it’s what any wife would do in my place, be with her husband in difficult times,” Aispuro told Telemundo. “In one way to another so that he feels and sees me present and feels my support.”
Chapo’s wife also hopes “everything will turn out well for him” and the rest of the family, including their 7-year-old twin girls, Maria Joaquina and Emely.
Emma is probably the only person on the planet who is publicly saying El Chapo is a “simple” man who has not done anything criminal, and for that reason, she just became the standard bearer for how to be a ride-or-die chick.
