George Santos Admits To Dressing In Drag, While Denouncing ‘Queen’ Label
Beleaguered U.S. Representative George Santos acknowledged Saturday (Jan. 21) that he dressed in drag, but denounced the label of “queen” after old photo resurfaces.
According to CNN, the Republican lawmaker didn’t deny it was him in the photo, but put to rest the claim that he was a drag queen in Brazil.
In his first response since the photo surfaced, Santos opened up to reporters on Saturday at New York’s LaGuardia Airport .
“No, I was not a drag queen in Brazil, guys. I was young and I had fun at a festival,” he told, CNN. “Sue me for having a life.”
The openly gay Rep. was identified by a Brazilian drag performer who posted the picture of herself and another person, alleging it was Santos in the picture at a 2008 Rio de Janeiro parade.
On Thursday (Jan. 19), Santos tweeted, “the most recent obsession from the media claiming that I am a drag Queen or ‘performed’ as a drag Queen is categorically false.”
The New York 3rd District representative has been under crucial scrutiny over the last few months for lies and misrepresentation surrounding several parts of his professional and personal life.
The other most recent claim is that he pocketed thousands of dollars that was intended for a service dog’s surgery. The embattled representative denied the claim on Thursday morning (Jan. 19), CBS News reports.
“The reports that I would let a dog die is shocking & insane,” he tweeted. “My work in animal advocacy was the labor of love & hard work.”
GoFundMe reportedly blocked him from the platform.
Despite all of the troubles surrounding him, Santos makes it clear that he will not resign from Congress.
