Suge Knight Hires Michael Jackson’s Former Lawyer
Suge Knight's day in court has been pushed back — again — after the rap mogul added Michael Jackson's former attorney to his defense team. A judge delayed the murder trial of the Death Row co-founder until July 7 in order to give his new lawyer, Thomas Mesereau, a chance to get more familiar with the case.
No, that doesn't mean listening to The Chronic. Mesereau will need to file court documents of his own pertaining to the attempted murder and hit-and-run charges levied against Knight. Mesereau is the fourth attorney to represent Knight since he was arrested.
For now, though, Mesereau is clear about at least one thing: "I am convinced he is innocent," he told reporters outside court, adding that he would make no further comments. He also told the judge that he doesn't think Knight is being treated humanely in prison, and has been denied visitation and phone calls.
Knight is accused of running over two men outside a Compton burger stand in January, killing one and seriously injuring the other. The incident occurred, ironically, on the set of a promo shoot for the upcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. He has pleaded not guilty.
