A$AP Rocky on Homophobia in Hip Hop: 'It's Just Silly'
A$AP Rocky is the face of a new generation of hip hop artists — ones that prefer blunts to Berettas — and isn't afraid to speak for his fellow millennials when he says that homophobia is as played out as "Kwame and them f**king polka dots," to steal a line from one of Rocky's idols, the Notorious B.I.G.
"None of that stuff matters. It's silly," he declares. "I accept people for who they are. Before, in hip hop, it was like you were gay by association. And that's just petty. If you think about it...who cares? I don't think it's cool to discriminate against anybody for their color, their sexual preference or anything."
It makes sense that Rocky would make his acting debut in a film that turns pretty much every stereotype about Black youth on its head. The Harlem native also talked to us about how he landed his first film role in Dope and his plans to work his way up the food chain in Hollywood.
