Kevin Clash Claims Sex Abuse Lawsuits Can’t Stand in Court
After being floored by three lawsuits accusing him of sexual abuse, Kevin Clash is legally fighting back. The former Sesame Street puppeteer claims the three men who accused him of having sex with them when they were minors haven’t got a case against him.
Clash recently moved to have three lawsuits filed against him by Cecil Singleton and two other unidentified men dismissed. The voice of Elmo claims the statute of limitations on the crimes he's accused of committing is six years. The crimes in each case allegedly occurred more than 10 years ago.
This past November, Clash was sued by the three men, each claiming Clash engaged in sexual activity with them when they were underage. All three claimed the encounters caused them mental and psychological damage, but that they recently became "aware" of the impact the experience had on them. Thus, the 10-year lapse.
Since the lawsuits, Clash has resigned from Sesame Street and a Warner Bros. puppet film he was working on was scrapped. The year before he was the star and subject of Being Elmo, a documentary which chronicled the puppeteer’s rise to stardom.
