Dave Chappelle Regrets Not Responding to Bob Saget’s Final Text
Dave Chappelle opened up to TMZ about the death of his friend and fellow comedian, Bob Saget.
Chappelle, 48, was performing Thursday night, Jan. 13, at the Peppermint Club in West Hollywood when TMZ’s cameras caught up with him, and noted that mortality has been on his mind.
The comedy legend, who got started in the business while still in his mid-teens, joked that his peers are “dying like hotcakes.”.
Chappelle was clearly referring to Saget. The Full House and America’s Funniest Home Videos performer was found dead in his hotel room in Orlando, Florida following a gig. Saget was only 65.
“I didn't see [the death of] Bob coming,” Chappelle said. “Man, he just texted me and I saw the text yesterday and I never texted him back because I was just busy. It happens.”
Taking a short pause, he added: “I’m just saying this to remind you that these moments are precious.” He continued, “When I come out at night, I'm not just hanging out. I'm making memories.”
The investigation into the cause of Saget's death continues, but authorities said there was no evidence of drugs or foul play.
