Tony Awards: Porgy and Bess , Clybourne Park Win
Broadway's biggest night was a good one for the cast of Porgy and Bess.
Porgy and Bess, the popular revival of George Gershwin's 1935 musical about a disabled Black beggar living in the slums of South Carolina, won Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for the show's lead Audra McDonald. It was the fith Tony win for McDonald, including an award for her role in A Raisin in the Sun. McDonald now ties the record for most Tony wins with Angela Lansbury and Julie Harris.
Clybourne Park, Bruce Norris's Pulitzer Prize-winning play which is both sequel and prequel to A Raisin in the Sun, took home the top honor for Best Play.
The star-studded show brought out theater lovers and Hollywood celebrities such as Tyler Perry, Bebe Winans, Sheryl Crow, Amanda Seyfried and Nick Jonas.
