Idris Elba Tweets About His Big Moves
Over the weekend, actor Idris Elba posted a cryptic message about his potential next role via Twitter. Elba wrote,”Having one of the biggest meetings of my professional life today…meeting a very controversial director for a very controversial part. :-/... I wish I could tell you more but…in due time… ” Blogs like Shadow and Act suspect that the former star of The Wire might be referring to Quentin Tarantino and the lead role for his next film, the slave-centered Western Django Unchained.
In other Idris news, he will be making his directorial debut soon after revealing to The Independent that he has been commissioned to direct a 90-minute film for the BBC2. “It’s a small tale about a young girl that I’ve been working on for about a year," Elba said. "I’m not writing it, but I’m helping shape the script and hopefully we’ll get to work on it at the end of this year.” In addition to that, Idris is also contemplating taking his BBC drama, Luther, to the big screen.
When it comes to his increasingly busy life, Idris quipped, "My work sounds like a verse by some braggadocious rapper: 'I kicked it with Beyoncé, then I kicked it with Charlize Theron and Ridley Scott and Denzel [Washington]...'. I've been living in LA, in Miami, in Brooklyn, in east London. It all gives me a unique perspective as an actor, as a director. It's rare to be in that position – and it's what makes me tick."
