Whoopi Goldberg Tests Positive For COVID-19
Whoopi Goldberg has tested positive for COVID-19 as the highly contagious Omicron variant rapidly spreads across the country.
Joy Behar, The View’s co-host, confirmed the news of the 66-year-old being diagnosed during the Monday (Jan. 3) episode of the daytime talk show. She also shared that the actor/comedian, who is vaccinated and has received her booster shot, is only experiencing mild symptoms.
In June 2021, Goldberg took a weeklong absence from The View after dealing with sciatica, a “pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve,” which travels from the lower back through the hips and down the legs, according to Mayo Clinic.
The rest of the ladies of The View filmed the talk show remotely with co-stars Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and guest host Ana Navarro, filming from their homes.
“They say there's no place like home for the holidays and that's exactly where we are this year,” Behar said at the top of the show. “Happy New Year from all of our living rooms. As you can see we're back in boxes and doing the show remotely — hopefully for just a week, I'm praying that it's just a week but you never know because this omicron thing is all over the place.”
Behar added that it was likely that Goldberg would return to the show next week, although it has not officially been confirmed.
Hostin later revealed in the show that she and her mom also tested positive for COVID over the holiday break but have since recovered.
