Oprah Planning For Broadway
Oprah Winfrey has always been vocal about wanting to get back into acting. Now that her talk show is approaching its final episode, she can shift gears towards making that dream come true, but this time around she wants to do Broadway and it looks like she’s close to landing a role.
"I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading," Winfrey told the Chicago Tribune. "And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen. ... Life is too short."
"I think," Winfrey said, "that an ensemble production is the way I should go."
Kenny Leon, the director of the high-profile Broadway revivals of Fences and A Raisin in the Sun, came to Winfrey about two years ago and wanted her to appear in Fences. She even thought about taping her show in New York so that she could do the play, but those plans fell through.
Oprah served as a producer for Broadway’s The Color Purple but she is still searching for that perfect play for her own debut. But if that doesn’t work, she’s Oprah--she can always create her own.
