Diva Forever!: The Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin Wears Red Stiletto Pumps In Her Gold Casket

Naturally, there's a red sequin dress to match.

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, died from advanced pancreatic cancer at age 76 on August 16 and is laid to rest in the most beautiful style.

Franklin was dressed in a beautiful red beaded sequin cocktail dress and ruby red metallic 4-inch stiletto heels, as the true diva she was. Her shining gold casket is on display at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where fans will be able to say their farewells. There’s a four-day memorial celebration with a two-day public viewing and two-day private service for family with the private funeral held on Friday, at Greater Grace temple. She will then be buried in Detroit's Woodlawn Cemetery.

Franklin's niece Sabrina Owens told the Associated Press that she and her family wanted to give the Queen of Soul a send-off that would match her legacy. And the red dress was chosen to symbolize her membership in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Owens said that dress looked like "something she would have selected for herself" to wear on stage, and the pastel roses surrounding her gold casket reflected the singer's love for the flower and her propensity to send arrangements "in grand fashion."

The music icon was transported to the museum in a vintage white LaSalle, passing by hundreds of mourning fans, and more than 200 of them slept outside overnight in order to pay their final respects to her.
