Angelica Ross Says She Received an Apology From Emma Roberts for Transphobic Remarks
Emma Roberts has reportedly issued an apology following allegations of problematic behavior and transphobic remarks during her tenure on the set of “American Horror Story: 1984.” The apology comes just one day after former co-star Angelica Ross voiced her concerns regarding the "Scream Queens" star.
In response, Ross returned to social media with a post expressing gratitude to Roberts for acknowledging her behavior was not supportive and not that of an ally. “Thank you @robertsemma for calling and apologizing, recognizing your behavior was not that of an ally.” The “Pose” alum said she would “leave the line open to follow up on your desire to do better and support social justice causes with your platform.”
In the initial Instagram Live video, Ross mentioned that Roberts made a playful remark, stating, "Anglica is being mean," during a conversation with an individual named John, presumably "AHS" director John J. Gray.
Ross, who identifies as a transgender woman, recounted that John intervened, saying, "Alright, ladies, that's enough. Let's get back to work." At this point, Roberts allegedly looked at Ross, asking, "Don't you mean 'lady'?" insinuating that only one of them could be referred to as such. The actress recalled thinking, “Like, what the f-ck did you just say?”
She continued, “I’m standing there, she walked away, my blood is boiling. Boiling because I’m like, if I say something, it’s gonna be me that’s the problem. And I know this because there was someone who spoke up about what she was doing, and they got repercussions from it. Not her — they did.”
Ross claimed that after the incident, “I didn’t speak to that b—ch the entire time after that,” and was later approached by Roberts after she noticed that Ross had grown distant. “I’m like, ‘Mmhmm,’ Cause b—ch don’t play me. You’ve been playing mind games with everybody on the set, and everybody’s been waiting for the moment that you would get me,” Ross added.
In another post, the actress claimed that Roberts even mocked her, noting, “I was SHOOK. She read me for blood with my own words. Of course, I was self-conscious about my voice on set after that.”
Ross also revealed concerning details about "AHS" creator Ryan Murphy, alleging that he ghosted her shortly after proposing they collaborate on an all-Black season of the FX series. However, the project never materialized, and Ross asserted that her subsequent attempts to discuss the series were left “on read,” potentially resulting in her missing an opportunity to work with Marvel.
