Wu-Tang Clan, Alicia Keys, A Tribe Called Quest Albums Added To National Recording Registry
Wu-Tang Clan, Alicia Keys, and A Tribe Called Quest will have one of their respective albums archived by the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.
According to the Library of Congress, Wu-Tang’s debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Keys’ Songs in a Minor, and Tribe’s The Low End Theory were all selected as a part of the 25 sound recordings added to the yearly registry.
The Library of Congress determines its annual list based on cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance.
“The National Recording Registry reflects the diverse music and voices that have shaped our nation’s history and culture through recorded sound,” said Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress, on Wednesday (April 13). “The national library is proud to help preserve these recordings, and we welcome the public’s input. We received about 1,000 public nominations this year for recordings to add to the registry.”
Nat King Cole’s 1961 single “The Christmas Song,” Ricky Martin’s hit 1999 single “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and more have been selected as other recordings receiving their 2022 National Recording Registry honor.
