Kanye West Among Bonnaroo Headliners
It took six years, but Kanye West will officially return to the Bonnaroo Music Festival this June. West, Elton John and Jack White are billed to headline the annual music event kicking off in Manchester, Tenn. June 12-15.
West's last performance at Bonnaroo was in 2008, when he kept fans waiting for close to two hours while his crew set up, eventually hitting the stage at 4:30 in the morning. A few days later, West explained the debacle on his blog, blaming festival organizers for not moving fast enough to clear out the preceding act's stage setup.
At the time, West called the Bonnaroo incident the "worst insult" he's ever received. "I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall," 'Ye wrote. "Why???? I understand if people don't like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much. But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life. This is the most offended I've ever been ... this is the maddest I ever will be."
Bonnaroo countered West's claims by pointing out that the festival has "successfully presented hundreds of the top artists in the world" and "strives to accommodate the needs of every performer."
Now that the Bonnaroo beef is settled, Yeezy will once again join a diverse collective of acts for this year's show. Other names added to the 2014 bill include Frank Ocean, Lauryn Hill, Wiz Khalifa, Lionel Richie, Chance the Rapper and A$AP Ferg.
Tickets go on sale via the Bonnaroo website Saturday (Feb. 22).
