Black Ministers in San Diego Offer Gift Cards for Guns
“We’ll give you a gift card for a gun,” is the message African-American ministers in San Diego are giving this holiday season.
On Dec. 19, the ministers are sponsoring a no-questions-asked gun exchange at their ministerial committee headquarters. The exchange, taking place for the past three years, gifted a $100 gift card last year in exchange for a handgun. A $200 gift card was given in exchange for a rifle.
About 540 firearms were “taken off the streets” over the past three years, the San Diego United African-American Ministerial Action Committee calculates.
This year, they — along with co-sponsors Councilman Tony Young, law enforcement agencies and the foundation of football star Junior Seau — hope to decrease even more of the number of guns in the streets.
The exchange will take place on Monday, Dec. 19, at the United African-American Ministerial Action Committee headquarters at 4981 Market Street, San Diego, California, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
