Behind the Look: Rachel Roy Explains Her Spring Collection
Can we all agree that Rachel Roy’s designs make you feel strong, sophisticated and undeniably feminine? The style maven showcased her spring 2012 line this week at NYFW and celebs drooled over her new looks, including Hollywood starlets, Angela Simmons, who fell in love with a mint green blazer, and Corinne Bailey Rae, who adored “how clean and simple” Roy’s designs are.
The woman of the hour explained how she pushed the boundaries of femininity. “I wanted to explore the idea of a very feminine woman wearing masculine clothing. That’s where you get the suiting from,” she told YBF.com. “And with all of the florals, I wanted to do them in a more graphic color. Florals, for me, either come in very bright, sharp lines, or black and white or black and cream.”
Roy was also creatively struck by the growing melting pot of poly-ethnic people in the world. Her clothing is a literal interpretation of diversity. “I think there’s so many nationalities out there that are mixed. There are so many ways to mix things, and if you don’t, that’s not modern. That’s my true inspiration.”
