The Warm Up: Teyana Taylor and Azealia Banks Top R&B/Hip Hop Charts
Face it, we're all culture vultures in one way or another, so it's only right that BET.com brings you #TheWarmUp on the daily tip. And remember that keeping it buck doesn't mean that shade is being thrown. (Word to Nicki.) We just like to keep it honest and real when it comes to our extended family. Read on for the hottest, most shocking moments of the past 24 hours.
— Congrats to Teyana Taylor and Azealia Banks who, respectively, took the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop chart! Both Harlemites released their official debut albums to much success, especially Banks, who pulled a Beyoncé and dropped her album unannounced last Friday.
— In slightly unexpected music news, new kid on the block and elusive Grammy-winning singer Lorde recently covered Jeremih's hit R&B single "Don't Tell 'Em." Yes, it sounds like an odd song choice for the songstress, but her eerie twist on the dance-influenced song is a good one.
— Ginuwine has decided to release a statement regarding his current legal, financial, and relationship situation due to rumors about him being broke hit the Internet earlier this week. He said that he and his wife, Solé, are currently going through a breakup and figuring out how to be fair without lawyers involved (at this time). He also added that he doesn't owe the public an explanation, but wanted to clear the air. Best of luck to them both.
— The holiday season is rapidly approaching and Tyga and Omarion are serving us with extremely worthy stocking stuffers. The Cali rapper will be releasing his new album, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, on Dec. 23 and Maybach O will release his debut on MMG, Sex Playlist, on Dec. 2. Merry musical Christmas, y'all!
— If you weren't sure about whether or not Beyoncé actually does run the world, she received her own category on Jeopardy this week. Is she the queen of the world yet? Seriously!
— To celebrate Veterans Day, Eminem and Rihanna reunited on stage at the highly successful Concert of Valor in Washington, D.C., last night. Rih's been having quite the week in the nation's capital after spending some time in the White House looking absolutely amazing on Monday while poking fun at everyone's favorite drama, Scandal. The Shonda Rhimes influence is real, y'all.
— We haven't heard Naya Rivera's name for months. Seriously though, she's become virtually irrelevant in the urban-pop world since breaking up with Big Sean and marrying her friend on the wedding date that she and the Detroit rapper had. After being quiet for a while, Naya has decided that it would be wise to comment on Kim Kardashian's latest sexy half-nude pic with the following: "I normally don't [comment]. But you're someone's mother..." How quickly things change. Months back, she was clearly dressing a lot like Kim, dyeing her hair like Kim and taking sexy selfies like Kim. We're asleep, though...
— Oh, and just to put you onto some new hot music from a dope new band, check out Lion Babe's video for the Nina Simone-sampling "Jump Hi," featuring Childish Gambino. Enjoy!
— Ladies, get your lives because Chris Brown and Trey Songz have announced the Between the Sheets tour! The #BTSTour couldn't have a more appropriate name and will start hitting cities around the country at the end of January. Get your tickets here!
— Congrats to Solange and her fiancé, Alan Ferguson, who are reportedly tying the knot this weekend in New Orleans. In true Knowles fashion, the singer has kept details under wraps until now and will marry her love on Saturday after a movie night with her close friends and family on Friday.
— Remember the Brandy and Monica hit "The Boy Is Mine"? Well, yeah, Jessie J and Ariana Grande do too, so of course the two powerhouse vocalists are remaking the song. So far, the reactions from fans are mixed with some excited and some wishing that the duo would let the classic rest. Tell us what you think by tweeting us here with the hashtag #TheWarmUp!
— Last night in Cali, French Montana celebrated his birthday in style and with his girl, Khloe Kardashian, by his side. Other attendees included Kris Jenner, Diddy, Cassie and Miguel.
— After giving birth just a week ago (#NoBobbyShmurda), Kelly Rowland has already recorded a song dedicated to her newborn son titled "Mommy's Little Baby." She previewed a snippet of the song earlier today on Instagram and, like her sister-friend Beyoncé, has put her unconditional love into song. Beautiful, Miss Kelly!
— It was announced about a month ago that Trey Songz and Chris Brown would be hitting the road together soon, but aside from a few remixed tracks, they've been mum about their joint tour... until tonight. If you're as interested as we are, click here at 7 p.m. EST to see what these two are announcing!
