Sisqó Loses Signature Hairstyle in Honor of Baltimore

The singer urges youth to choose "intellect over emotion."

Sisqó is stepping up to support his hometown of Baltimore, but not in the way you’d expect. The “Thong Song” singer took to social media to say he’s honoring the rioting city…by changing up his hairstyle. Sisqó, who is known for his platinum blond ‘do, shaved his head as a sacrifice.

“I sacrificed my hair as a symbol of support for the struggle that Baltimore & most inner-city youth face everyday [sic],” he wrote on Instagram over the weekend. “My hair has been my signature around the world since our careers started hand n hand with being a Baltimore native good, bad, or ugly. It wrenched my heart when I saw the way that we were being portrayed to the world media.”

Sisqó explained that he was unable to take to the streets alongside the Baltimore residents who are currently protesting the death of Freddie Gray while under police custody. He said he and his fellow Dru Hill members would be more involved in their community, but in the meantime urged youth to use their brains before their fists.

“The fact that I was unable to march on the streets of my city with my brothers & sisters physically made me feel as if I needed to make a statement that couldn't be tainted, twisted, or misconstrued. I have worked with local schools, churches & youth groups in the past. Myself & DRU HILL are working to do more in the future. So hang in there young people...and remember think outside-of-the-box. Be better then [sic] the best & always remember intellect over emotion.”
