Isis Dynasty , Starring Paula Jai Parker, Launches Indiegogo Campaign
Black films have had a stellar 2013 — from Fruitvale Station to The Best Man Holiday — and now movie fans have a chance to help bring more of them to the big screen. Isis Dynasty, an independent film starring Hustle & Flow's Paula Jai Parker, Girlfriends' Golden Brooks and Couples Retreat's Faizon Love, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help the filmmakers get past the finish line. The Indiegogo campaign seeks close to $30,000 to help with post-production costs.
Isis Dynasty, the debut feature film of Living Legends' Corey "Sunspot Jonz" Johnson and Fatima Washington, a graduate of Yale and the USC film school, is the story of down-on-her-luck Isis Angelo, a screenwriter whose current struggles with love, life and career have come to a head. Frustrated, she gives herself 30 more days to make it in Hollywood. According to the film's website, what ensues is a hilarious, poignant romp through the underbelly of Los Angeles.
Crowdfunding for films has taken off this year, with A-listers and independent filmmakers alike looking to fund their projects. Spike Lee raised upwards of $1 million for his next joint, Da Blood of Jesus, on Kickstarter, while Criminal Minds actor Shemar Moore found more than half a million dollars on Indiegogo for his rom-com The Bounce Back.
