Dez Bryant Agrees to Five-Year, $70 Million Deal With Cowboys
They just made it.
After negotiations were beginning to look real shaky, the Dallas Cowboys and star wide receiver Dez Bryant finally hammered out a five-year, $70 million contract extension, including $45 million guaranteed, just before Wednesday's 4p.m. deadline, according to multiple media outlets.
Bryant's $14 million per season is more than the $12.82 he would have earned in the 2015 season had he signed his franchise tender that the Cowboys were offering him. Signing this extension makes Bryant the second-highest paid wide receiver in the NFL, behind only the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson, who makes nearly $16 million per year. That being said, Bryant's $45 million in guaranteed money is an NFL record for wideouts.
Bryant, 26, is coming off a 2014 season, in which he led the league in received touchdowns with 16.
Perhaps vowing to skip training camp and sit out regular-season games if he didn't get the contract, paid off for Bryant.
In another big name signing on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs made Justin Houston the richest linebacker in NFL history via a six-year, $101 million contract that includes $52.5 million in guaranteed money.
