Widow Myeshia Johnson Says Trump Forgot Husband's Name During Call And She Still Hasn't Seen His Body
After the deadly ambush in Niger, which killed American soldiers Staff Sgt. Bryan Black, Sgt. La David Johnson, Staff Sgt. Dustin Wright and Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson, one widow was thrust into the spotlight after a poor call from President Trump.
When President Trump called La David Johnson's wife, Myeshia Johnson, the conversation did not comfort her. Florida Congresswoman — and friend to the Johnsons — Frederica Wilson told reporters Trump told the widow her husband "knew what he was signing up for."
After several days, Myeshia Johnson broke her silence with an interview on Good Morning America, wherein she confirmed Wilson's account of the call and raised several questions about her husband's death.
Johnson told 'GMA' the president could not remember her husband's name during the call, and officials have not allowed her to view his body
"The only way he remembered my husband's name is because he told me he had my husband’s report in front of him and that’s when he actually said La David. I heard him stumblin' on trying to remember my husband’s name and that’s what hurt me the most, because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country, why can’t you remember his name?" Myeshia told George Stephanopoulos.
When the interview first began, Myeshia said she doesn't understand why her husband died and what took so long to find him.
“I want to know why it took them 48 hours to find my husband? Why couldn’t I see my husband? Every time I asked to see my husband, they wouldn’t let me,” Myeshia told Stephanopoulos.
The Gold Star widow then said she was not allowed to view his body.
“I need to see him so I know that that is my husband,” Myeshia said. “They won’t show me a finger, a hand — I know my husband’s body from head to toe, and they won’t let me see anything. I don’t know what’s in that box, it could be empty for all I know. But I need to see my husband.”
Shortly after the interview aired, Trump disputed Myeshia's claims with a tweet
However, during the interview, Myeshia confirmed Rep. Wilson's account
To wrap up the interview, Stephanopoulos asked if there was anything Myeshia would like to say to the president.
"No. I don’t have nothing to say to him," she said.
