Accomplished Black Engineering Student Allegedly Stabbed to Death by White Roommate

Friends of victim Clifton Taylor say suspect Zachary Drey "did a lot of weird things."

The 25-year-old man suspected of stabbing his roommate, an accomplished UNLV student, to death has been captured by police in California, reported 8 News Now.

Zachary Drey, was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol on Tuesday for killing his roommate Clifton Taylor, 25, on May 31. Before Clifton was murdered, he told his friend that Drey “just did weird things.”

According to police, Taylor's body was found in a bathtub with multiple stab wounds and Drey confessed the killing to a family member.

One of Taylor's mentors, Jowna Jezieski, director of the UNLV multicultural program, said he was upset to learn about Taylor’s death.

"Since the moment we learned, we were angry because we don't understand why this happened," Jezieski told 8 News Now. "He was really a great kid. He was a great student. He knew exactly what he wanted. He had big dreams."

Taylor was a successful and ambitious engineering student who ran and won the presidential spot of the UNLV multicultural program last year. Taylor was expected to graduate in December.

UNLV says it will hold a vigil for Taylor this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
