Trina Opens Up About Dark Period of Grief Following the Loss of Her Brother and Mother

The Miami rapper shared her emotional journey of coping with the devastating deaths of her brother in 2013 and her mother in 2019.

Trina shared that she's currently on a journey of healing after going through the heartbreaking losses of both her brother and mother in just a few short years.

During a recent appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show,” the Miami rapper opened up about how she navigated through such difficult times. “The loss of my brother is when life went dark for me,” she confused. “And like, to the world, they see it as happy, smiling, just keep pushing. But for me, since 2013, my life was dark until now. Since 2013 when I lost my brother, I just felt so disconnected from the world. I felt like I wanted my life not to be here. Not to even think that in 2019, I would lose my mom.”

She went on to explain the immense grief that followed, saying, “I really stopped believing in everything that I believe in life. I get that God gives the strongest [battles] to the [strongest people]. I’m not that strong. I just started breaking down losing myself. I don’t understand, how do you live without your mom?”

The “Look Back at Me” hitmaker added, “My mom is the person I call every second of the day to annoy her for every little thing I want. She’s never not been there for me. And when she wasn’t here, I just felt alone in the world. I have my sisters, my cousins, my family but it’s still my mom. It’s no certain time or way to get over the grief. I’ll never feel closure.”

In April 2013, Trina's brother Wilbrent "Gronk" Bain was tragically shot and killed in Miami during an altercation. Then, in September 2019, Trina's mother, Vernessa "Nessa" Taylor, passed away at the age of 62 following a battle with an undisclosed form of cancer.
