This is it for Big Papi.

Longtime Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz will reportedly announce Wednesday that he will retire following the 2016 season, as reported by ESPN. Perhaps the announcement was carefully premeditated, considering Wednesday is also Ortiz's 40th birthday.

A three-time World Series champion and nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star with Silver Slugger Awards to his name, Ortiz clocked 503 career home runs, which puts him 27th on the all-time homer list, just one shy of tying Hall of Famer Eddie Murray.

The future Hall of Famer is still capable of producing, as evidenced by his .273 batting average, 37 home runs and 108 RBIs last season.

Although his stats still pack a punch, Big Papi would love nothing more than to leave the game with one more World Series ring.

"Winning another World Series [is the goal]," Ortiz told ESPN before the end of last season. "I'll take a World Series anytime on top of 500 home runs any day. That's my goal. That's my goal for next year. That was my goal for this year, but it didn't work out that way. I'll be on it next year."
