2 Chainz Announces Freebase EP
2 Chainz has some brand new music he wants fans to hear. The G.O.O.D. Music rap star will release a five-track EP titled Freebase, he announced Tuesday (April 15).
Freebase comes out May 5 and is dubbed a "fan-oriented" release, returning Chainz back to his hard-core rap roots.
"It has been a minute since the release of my album B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time and I wanted to give something special to my fans while I record my follow up," he says in a news release to BET.com. "This is a taste of what is to come and is most importantly for them."
In addition to the announcement, the 36-year-old unveiled a Freebase video teaser, which shows various images of people freebasing cocaine.
The EP's artwork features a vintage photo of late comic legend Richard Pryor laying on a bed shirtless (possbily high at the time) with two chains around his neck and a black banner over his eyes. The cover art was picked from 10,000 options fans submitted via Instagram.
Chainz's last full-length album, BOATS II: Me Time, dropped in September 2013, bowing at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 charts, No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts, and has sold 221,000 copies since January of this year.
His 2012 debut, Based on a True Story, surpassed 600,000 in sales and earned him a Grammy nod for Best Rap Album.
