Colin Kaepernick Thanks Eric Reid For His Support

“You never turned your back on me or the people.”

Wednesday’s three-year anniversary of Colin Kaepernick’s initial kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games ended up producing a lot more than a salute to a social justice leader.

“I continue to work and stand with the people in our fight for liberation, despite those who are trying to erase the movement,” he wrote in a tweet marking the occasion.

And while many believed the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was mainly referring to hecklers who continually demanded he stand during the anthem, others speculated it was also a response to Jay-Z’s newly announced partnership with the NFL.

The Twitter post came just after the rapper and businessman, who publicly supports Kaepernick, announced his decision to partner with the NFL

Jay’s collaboration will reportedly be an effort to “enhance the NFL’s live game experiences and to amplify the league’s social justice efforts,” according to a league statement.

Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend and radio personality, Nessa Diab, reacted to Jay-Z and the NFL’s partnership on Twitter saying, “COLIN never spoke to JAY-Z and NFL ahead of that deal being done. They NEVER included him in any discussion.”

  • Yesterday (August 15), we noted in a report about the kneeling anniversary video that Eric Reid, a longtime supporter of Kaepernick’s, tweeted his criticism of Jay-Z. “It looks like your goal was to make millions and millions of dollars by assisting the NFL in burying Colin’s career,” Reid tweeted, in-part.

  • Just hours after Eric Reid’s tweet, Kaep took to both Twitter and Instagram to thank the current Carolina Panther.

“You never turned your back on me or the people, even when the NFL tried to silence your voice & the movement,” Kaepernick wrote in his social media posts to Reid. “You’ve never flinched or wavered.”

  • Both Kaepernick and Reid settled a case with the NFL in February after filing a collusion grievance lawsuit.

According to USA Today, Colin Kaepernick has officially been out of work for 889 days as of August 7 since leaving the 49ers in March 2017.
