Tragic News: Dwyane Wade's Cousin Fatally Shot While Pushing A Baby Stroller
NBA star Dwyane Wade and his family have sadly been hit with the tragic news that his cousin, Nykea Aldridge, was fatally shot in Chicago yesterday afternoon (August 26).
Aldridge, a 32-year-old mother, was caught in crossfire while she was pushing one of her four children in a stroller in the city’s Parkway Gardens neighborhood.
As reported, Aldridge became the unintended victim when two men opened fire on another man. Her infant wasn’t hurt and was taken into custody by a family member who arrived on the scene.
Wade took to Twitter to confirm the heartbreaking news, writing, “My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough.”
According to reports, two people are currently being questioned by police and the shooting incident remains under investigation. Additionally, the shooting marks the fifteenth person who was affected by gun violence in Chicago in the past week alone.
Wade discussed the city’s recent acts of violence during a video conference on Thursday, broadcasting from Miami.
“This is something that didn’t start today,” he offered. “This is something that is not going to end tomorrow. But this is something that we can start a conversation, we can start the work today.”
The basketball player was not in the city during the time of his cousin’s passing.
Our condolences and prayers are with Wade and his family during this time.
