Simone Biles has been a highlighted superstar athlete early into these 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

And her growing fan base isn't taking too kindly to controversial comments an NBC announcer made about the dynamic gymnast's family.

After stints in foster care, the 19-year-old Biles and her younger sister, Adria, were actually adopted by their grandfather, Ron Biles, and his wife, Nellie, in 2000.

Well, over the weekend in Rio, longtime sports announcer Al Trautwig thought he had the authority to weigh in on it and did so both on the air during the Olympics and with this rather insensitive tweet.

Although he would delete the tweet, you already know the internet grabbed a screen shot.

The backlash led to Trautwig issuing the following apology, as reported by the Daily Beast:

“I regret that I wasn’t more clear in my wording on the air,” Trautwig said in a statement. “I compounded the error on Twitter, which I quickly corrected. To set the record straight, Ron and Nellie are Simone’s parents.”

Better late than never that he came to this conclusion, right?

Apology accepted, though?
