Amil Wishes She Could Talk to Jay-Z and Get Closure
Can she get a what, what? Amil, the first female rapper signed to Roc-A-Fella records, isn't always talked about in a positive light. Still, the 32-year old mother of three understands what comes along with this business. That's why she gracefully bowed out back at the start of the millennium. In a recent interview with Vibe.com, Amil comes clean about her relationship with Jay-Z, saying that she wished she could talk to him so that she could get closure.
"I haven't spoken to Jay in years but I really wish I could talk to him because that would just really bring closure to me. But he knows I love him," says Amil. "People think there was bad blood between us, but there never was any bad blood. Things happen and I wasn't ready for where my career was going at that time. It was really overwhelming."
When a fake Twitter account (@Amil_DOE) popped up earlier this week attacking other female rappers, some thought Amil had marked her return. But the female rapper has no desire to be in this industry. "I'm happy for the time that I had, but [the entertainment industry] is not for me...I'm an old head. My whole life is so different now. But I'm in a beautiful place and really just enjoying myself." Amil also denied ever having a Facebook or Twitter account.
Amil talked candidly about the negativity that has surrounded her since her departure from Roc-A-Fella. "Sometimes things like this surprise me because I haven't been in the spotlight in awhile, but when I come up it always seems to be something negative. That's something I try my hardest to stay away from. It does bother me a little bit but I let it go after while."
