Shelly Sterling Meets With Ex-Microsoft CEO
Shelly Sterling, the wife of banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, reportedly met with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on Sunday to discuss selling the NBA franchise, according to TMZ.
Last Friday, news broke that Sterling had ordered his wife to sell the Clippers and Shelly isn’t wasting time. TMZ reported that the meeting between Shelly Sterling and Ballmer, a billionaire, took place at her Malibu mansion. Mrs. Sterling's lawyer and NBA commissioner Adam Silver have purportedly been secretly meeting to see if they can reach an agreement whereby she would voluntarily sell the franchise before June 3.
The league’s owners have a planned June 3 hearing in New York City in which they will vote on whether Sterling should sell the team. If three-fourths of NBA owners vote against Sterling, he would be forced to sell the Clippers under league rules.
Ballmer — worth an estimated $20 billion — has indicated interest in purchasing the Clippers and keeping them in Los Angeles, although his business ties are deep-rooted in Seattle.
Everyone from Magic Johnson to Oprah Winfrey, Diddy, Rick Ross and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have expressed interest in purchasing the Clippers. Sterling was banned for life and hit with a $2.5 million fine by Silver last month for making racist remarks against African-Americans.
