Donald Trump Tweets Tribute To Elijah Cummings Just Weeks After He Described His City As ‘Rat-Infested’

“Your impeachment and removal will be dedicated to Elijah.”

Before he suddenly passed away, Elijah Cummings was one of the top members of Congress investigating Donald Trump on numerous fronts.

The Maryland Rep. had launched inquiries into Trump’s business dealings, including ones involving his family, so it’s no surprise the president went after him numerous times on Twitter.

In separate tweets, Trump called Cummings a “racist” and described Baltimore, the city he largely represents, “rat-infested.”

  • Now that Cummings has passed away, reportedly due to complications from long-standing health issues, Trump is changing his tune on Twitter.

45 tweeted, “My warmest condolences to the family and many friends of Congressman Elijah Cummings. I got to see first hand the strength, passion and wisdom of this highly respected political leader. His work and voice on so many fronts will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!”

  • The tweet didn’t fool many on the social media platform. Numerous people pointed out how Trump’s newfound “condolences” don’t match up with his past behavior regarding the famed civil rights leader and congressman.

  • Others just straight up went for the president in Cummings’ honor.

  • The son of a sharecropper, Cummings was a formidable orator who passionately advocated for the constituents in his majority Black district, which encompasses a large section of Baltimore as well as its upper class suburbs.

He had been facing significant health challenges recently and was in and out of the hospital, missing votes and orders of business in his committee.

Cummings was spotted several times in recent weeks with a breathing tube in his nose connected to oxygen while on the House floor. He could also be seen operating a motorized wheelchair throughout the Capitol and using the assistance of a walker.
