'Today Show' Host Matt Lauer Fired Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations And Several Reporters Say There Were Multiple Victims
The news cycle of November 29 was highly active before the 10 o'clock hour and many are having a difficult time processing the turn of events. Early Tuesday morning, NBC announced resident Today Show host Matt Lauer was terminated after the company received a complaint of sexual misconduct.
In an early morning memo to NBC Universal staffers, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said executives on Monday night “received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment. While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
As the Today Show began on Wednesday morning, an emotional Savannah Guthrie delivered the news of Lauer's termination
"As I'm sure you can imagine, we are devastated and we are still processing all of this," Guthrie said while using Hoda Kotb for support.
"All I can say is we are heartbroken," Guthrie said. "How do you reconcile your love for someone with the revelation that they have behaved badly? And I don't know the answer to that."
Guthrie then went on to say that she was also heartbroken for the brave women who came forward to speak on the experience with Lauer.
As Lauer's termination became public knowledge, several journalists revealed they've been working on stories compiling allegations against the former anchor for several months
President Trump – who also has many sexual harassment allegations against him – quickly took to Twitter about Lauer's firing
