Details: Korryn Gaines’ Son Was Shot by Baltimore Police
This past Monday, Baltimore County Police fatally shot 23-year-old Korryn Gaines during a standoff situation. During the incident, Gaines’ 5-year-old son was wounded during the exchange of gunfire, and new details from the investigation have since surfaced.
As reported, the young child was in fact accidentally shot by a police officer and the department has now officially confirmed this. Police initially were questioning whether the boy was hit from a bullet fired by his mother, or by police.
"As a result of an additional medical procedure performed today at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Baltimore County Police believe that a round fired by a tactical officer struck Kodi Gaines, the 5-year-old who suffered non life-threatening injuries in Monday's police-involved shooting in Randallstown," the county police department said in a statement.
As a result of the incident, the young boy was injured in the left cheek.
Police also stated that the officer struck Korryn Gaines after she had aimed her weapon at the officer first, threatening to kill him.
Additionally, the police department said that they will not be releasing the name of the officer who fatally shot the 5-year-old’s mother, due to “an unprecedented number of threats.”
