Heartbreaking: Engaged Orlando Couple With Plans to Wed to Have Joint Funeral Instead
Juan Ramon Guerrero, 22, and his boyfriend, Christopher "Drew" Leinonen, 32, were both killed in the Orlando nightclub shooting. Now, their two families said that they will have a joint funeral for the couple, instead of the wedding they were dreaming of.
The Guerrero family told Time that they want to have a funeral where the couple can be buried side by side. "They were going to have a wedding together," Juan's sister, Aryam, said. "They were honestly so in love. They were soul mates. You can tell by how they looked at each other." She added, "It's a little comforting that they died together."
Both families are in support of the joint funeral, with Juan's father, Ramon Guerrero, saying he believes it's what his son would have wanted. Drew's mother, Christine Leinonen, agrees.
The two young men had been dating for two years and were living together. Christine told ABC News that the last words she said to her son when they spoke on Saturday night were, "I love you, Chris." She added, "He was so much love and light."
Juan’s father said of his son, "He was a beautiful kid, a hard worker, friendly, sweet person. I lost part of my life."
