The mothers of Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant, Michael Brown, and Eric Garner (pictured L-R, above) have each experienced unspeakable tragedy in recent years, and through their grief they have found each other.

Sybrina Fulton, Wanda Johnson, and Lesley McSpadden attended a rally in Brooklyn on Saturday to commemorate the one year death anniversary of Garner, and to give his mother Gwen Carr a shoulder — or three — to lean on.

"Remember my son and all the mothers' sons. We're all grieving. It's not just about my son, it's about all of the stolen lives," Carr told the assembled crowd, numbering in the hundreds.

Garner's widow Esaw Garner, his daughter Legacy and the one-year-old's mother Jewel Miller also addressed the crowd, vowing to continue fighting for Garner. Legacy released a white dove in her father's memory at the very spot in Staten Island where he died.
But the rally wasn't just about memories and moving speeches. Lead by Reverend Al Sharpton, the crowd protested the seemingly insufficient federal probe into Garner's death. The crowd demanded a federal investigation, and for the U.S. attorney to pursue a federal civil rights case. Protests weren't only held in Brooklyn, but throughout Manhattan as well. 
Last week, Garner's family accepted a nearly $6 million settlement from the City of New York, preempting a civil suit, though it seems the family is still pursuing federal charges against Daniel Pantaleo, the NYPD office who put him in a fatal chokehold.
